Joe DeCecco was the kind of person who instantly made you feel like you’d known him forever, as if he were your best friend from the moment you met. His wit and authenticity drew people to him effortlessly. As a son, brother, friend or colleague, Joe had a rare gift for making even the simplest moments more joyful with his infectious laughter and big smile. As a teacher, Joe was nothing short of extraordinary. He believed in his students with complete passion, always seeing their potential even when they couldn’t see it themselves. His encouragement and support made them believe that anything was possible, empowering each student to look to their future with confidence and to do “whatever it takes” to achieve their goals.
Beyond his work as an educator, Joe loved his Village of Kenmore. As a Trustee, he dedicated his time to improve and elevate the community. Whether volunteering at local events, lending an ear to a neighbor, or offering a helping hand, Joe made the Village a more vibrant place.
In honor of Joe and the impact he had on so many lives, the Joe DeCecco Memorial Foundation was established to carry forward his legacy of inspiring students and giving back to the community he loved. The Foundation is dedicated to raising funds for a scholarship program supporting Lackawanna High School students as they pursue their academic dreams, and to developing a grant program that supports small businesses in the Village of Kenmore.
